USC Baseball Falls in Opener to No. 5 Oregon State, 9-1
April 08, 2022 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team dropped the opening game of a three-game series to No. 5 Oregon State on Friday evening, falling 9-1 to the Beavers.
USC drops to 17-10 overall and 4-6 in Pac-12 play with the loss while Oregon State improves to 22-7, 8-5.
The Beavers scored four runs in the first two innings and then rode their arms the rest of the way, getting 6.0 scoreless innings from starter Cooper Hjerpe.
Jaden Agassi took over on the mound in the third and settled things down for USC, tossing 5.0 scoreless innings in relief, but the Trojan bats couldn't get anything going in time to capitalize.
Oregon State would add five runs on a bases-loaded walk, a three-run triple and a run-scoring single in the ninth. USC put runners on each of the last three innings of the game and finally broke through with an RBI single from Carson Wells in the ninth, but that was it for the Trojan offense.
