USC’s Nike Agunbiade, George Korovin, Shangfei Wang Punch Tickets To NCAA Diving Championships

USC juniors Nike Agunbiade and George Korovin, along with freshman phenom Shangfei Wang, punched their tickets to the NCAA diving championships after impressive day one showings at the Zone E Diving Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz. on Monday (March 6).
Freshman Wang led the way for USC during the first day of competition in Arizona, finishing second on 3-meter with 832.95. With his finish, Wang earns his first career NCAA bid and will represent USC at the Championships in Atlanta, Georgia.
Joining Wang in the finals was All-American Korovin, who earned his third NCAA bid after finishing third on 3-meter with 780.75. Just last week, Korovin became the men's Pac-12 Champion, taking the event to pick up his first conference crown.
On women's 1-meter, it was Junior Agunbiade that punched her ticket, wrapping up the afternoon with 572.75 for third. With only seven spots up for grabs on 1-meter, Trojan Farrah Volpintesta (557.90) just missed the cut, finishing eighth, only .35 points behind Utah's Holly Waxman (558.25) who took seventh.
The three-day competition continues tomorrow, March 7, with opportunities for Trojans to earn invites to the dance on women's 3-meter and men's platform.
NCAA BOUND
Just last week, eight Trojans were invited to compete at the upcoming women's NCAA Championships, March 16-19 in Atlanta, Georgia. USC's eight invited athletes include Calypso Sheridan (100y back, 200y breast, 200y IM), Kaitlyn Dobler (50y free, 100y breast, 200y breast), Isabelle Odgers (100y breast, 200y breast, 200y IM), Laticia Transom (50y free, 100y free, 200y free), Anicka Delgado (50y free, 100y fly), Caroline Pennington (500y free, 1650y free), Nicole Pavlopoulou (200y breast) and Hanna Henderson (100y free). In addition, the Trojans' will take with them sophomore Adair Sand and freshmen Genevieve Sasseville and Marlene Kahler to compete on relays.
The men's NCAA Championship invitations will be announced later this week.
