Trojans Win 7 Races, Set Three Pool Records as No. 11 USC Downs UCLA, 242-130
February 12, 2022 | Women's Swimming & Diving
USC posted seven event wins and set three pool records to lead the No. 11 Trojan women's swimming and diving team to a dominant 242-130 victory over crosstown rival UCLA at the Spieker Aquatics Center on Saturday (Feb. 12).
After losing their last two meets to Cal and Stanford, USC rebounded to improve to 5-2, 4-2 while dropping UCLA to 3-5, 1-5. The Trojans now hold a 30-17-1 edge against the Bruins.
USC opened the meet with a pool record and win as the Trojan quartet of Calypso Sheridan, Kaitlyn Dobler, Anicka Delgado and Laticia Transom comined for a 1:35.32 in the 200y medley relay.
Transom later returned to set her own individual pool record (her second of the weekend), this time in the 100y free (47.62).
In the 200y breast, senior Calypso Sheridan touched in 2:07.18 to take first and post a Spieker pool record originally held by USC's Kirsten Vose (2:08.76). Touching second in the event was Isabelle Odgers (2:08.49) followed by Nicole Pavlopoulou in a personal best 2:08.91 for third. In fourth was USC's Kaitlyn Dobler (2:10.97).
Freshman Jade Hannah claimed the 200y back in 1:54.22, leading a 1-2 Trojan finish. In second was junior Aela Janvier who was close behind Hannah in 1:54.66.
USC freshmen Marlene Kahler (4:43.86) and Caroline Pennington (4:44.01) finished 1-2, respectively in the 500y free to further extend the Trojans lead.
On the diving side, sophomore Maddie Huitt posted her second win of the weekend, claiming the platform competition with 270.30.
The Women of Troy closed out the afternoon with a victory in the 400y free relay as Delgado, Hanna Henderson, Dobler and Transom combined for a 3:15.10.
USC's dominant Crosstown Cup win will certainly provide valuable momentum as the team turns its attention to the Pac-12 Championships, which begin on February 23 in Federal Way, Wash.
