THIS WEEK
USC officially kicks off its 2022-23 campaign this week with two games slated for the Women of Troy at Galen Center. First, it's the season opener at 7 p.m. on Tuesday (Nov. 8) as USC squares off against visiting CSU Bakersfield. The weekend will bring more home action, as USC hosts Idaho State for the first-ever meeting between the two programs at 7 p.m. on Saturday (Nov. 12).
IN THE NATION
USC is receiving votes in the preseason USA Today poll.
EXCITING EXHIBITION ACTION
USC got an early tune-up on Oct. 30 with an exhibition matchup against visiting Cal State Los Angeles at Galen Center. It was a flashy first showing for the Women of Troy, who introduced their fans to five new players on the court that day — three of whom hit doubles digits. Newcomers Kadi Sissoko, Kayla Williams and Okako Adika were joined by sophomore Rayah Marshall in double figures, with Sissoko and Marshall recorded a double-double each in the 87-48 USC win. In all, nine Trojans scored as USC gave up the opening bucket but then buckled in and stayed the course to victory. Sissoko tallied a game-high 25 points while collecting 10 rebounds, while Marshall scored 21 points and hauled in a game-high 15 rebounds. Williams and Adika wrapped up just a rebound shy of double-doubles, as they scored 13 and 12 points, respectively. Williams and Adika also combined for five 3-pointers landed, with newcomer Rokia Doumbia also splashing in a long one for the Trojans. USC wrapped the exhibition test shooting 46.8 percent from the floor while holding Cal State LA to 27.7 percent. USC also outrebounded the Golden Eagles 61-28 down the stretch.
2022-23 TROJANS
The Women of Troy are a dynamic group with solid returning talent along with a powerful group of newcomers. The 2022-23 roster features All-Pac-12 honoree Rayah Marshall and its top 3-point scorer Alyson Miura returning from last season, in addition to seven transfers ready to hit the court in Cardinal and Gold. USC's group of grad transfers features an NCAA champion in Destiny Littleton along with three standout internationals in Kadi Sissoko, Rokia Doumbia and Okako Adika. USC has also welcomed undergraduate transfers Kayla Williams, Koi Love and Taylor Bigby to the Trojan Family. USC is under the direction of head coach Lindsay Gottlieb for the second season.
RAYAH'S PAC-12 POWER
USC sophomore Rayah Marshall has added to her Pac-12 accolades with her earning of All-Pac-12 Preseason Honorable Mention from the media. The top-ranked freshman in the nation in blocks last season, Marshall is back for more in her second year as a Trojan. Marshall earned All-Pac-12 Defensive Honorable Mention last year, and was selected to the Pac-12 All-Freshman Team. She was USC's third leading scorer with 11. 3 points per game while dominating the boards with a team-high 7.7 rebounds per game to go along with her 2.54 blocks per game — ranking her No. 12 overall in the nation in that category.
PAC-12 PLAN
USC is lined up to have all 18 of its conference games broadcast by Pac-12 Networks this season. In a unique twist to the schedule, the Trojans will have an early rivalry clash with crosstown foe UCLA. The first USC-UCLA battle of season will take place on the Trojans' home turf, with the Bruins coming to town on Dec. 15 at Galen Center. The rest of the conference slate picks back up two weeks later for USC, which visits the Oregon schools Dec. 30-Jan. 1 before going another round with the Bruins on Jan. 8 in Westwood. While fans will be able to catch all of USC's road games on Pac-12 Networks, local fans will also have the opportunity to catch the Women of Troy in-person at Galen Center eight times in 2023. That includes battles with Cal and Stanford (Jan. 13 and 15) along with a stretch of four straight home tests in February as the Arizona schools and Oregon schools swing through Los Angeles. The Trojans wrap their regular season at home on Feb. 23-25 with action against Washington and Washington State, respectively.
