Cal Downs USC Baseball, 4-3, on Walkoff Single in Ninth

BERKELEY, Calif. – The USC baseball team battled back from an early deficit to tie the game, but Cal got a walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth to pick up a 4-3 win and even the series.
USC falls to 12-10 overall and 5-3 in Pac-12 play with the loss, while Cal moves to 15-10, 3-2.
The Bears jumped out to a 2-0 lead on a two-run homer by Quentin Selma in the bottom of the first inning. The Trojans answered with a long ball of their own in the fifth, getting a solo-shot from Ben Ramirez to make it a 2-1 game.
Cal added a run in the bottom half of the fifth, loading the bases and walking in a run, but Brian Gursky limited the damage with a groundout on the next at-bat. The Trojans tied things up in the sixth, getting an RBI triple from Rhylan Thomas and an RBI single from John Thomas
The teams entered the ninth tied 3-3, with USC putting a pair of runners on in the top half of the inning, but the Trojans were unable to push across a run. A walk and an error put two on to start the bottom of the ninth for Cal, then Dylan Beavers drove home the winning run with a single.
