February 27, 2021 | Baseball
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team couldn't keep pace with Cal Poly in an offensive battle on Saturday afternoon at Dedeaux Field, falling 9-4 to the Mustangs.
Â
USC drops to 2-3 overall with the loss and the Mustangs move to 3-3 on the year.

The teams were locked in a back-and-forth battle until Cal Poly came up with three runs in the eighth and two in the ninth to break what had been a 4-4 tie heading into the final two frames. The Trojans couldn't find a late answer.
Â
After the Mustangs struck first with a run in the opening half inning, USC came back and got a two-run double from Nate Clow in the bottom of the second. Both teams would score in the third, with the Trojans getting a solo-homer from Rhylan Thomas, and then USC took a 4-2 lead in the fourth on an RBI groundout from John Thomas.
Â
Cal Poly scored in both the fifth and sixth innings to tie it up before breaking things open in the eighth.
