USC To Play Final Road Game At Utah Sunday

The USC Trojans (19-8, 8-6) will play at the Utah Runnin' Utes (14-12, 5-9) at the Huntsman Center in SLC, Utah on Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. PT. The game will air on ESPNU with Eric Rothman and Ben Braun calling the action. USC is 5-5 on the road this season and is playing its final road game of the season. USC will close out the regular season with home games against Arizona, Arizona State and UCLA. USC is seeking its 21st 20-win season in school history, three already under Andy Enfield's leadership.
BREAKING DOWN UTAH -- The Utah Runnin' Utes (14-12, 5-9) are coming off a 69-58 home loss to UCLA, just their second home loss of the season (10-2). Utah is led in scoring and rebounding by Timmy Allen (17.3 ppg/7.2 rpg). USC defeated Utah 56-52 at the Galen Center on Jan. 30, but still trails in the all-time series, 20-24. Â
USC SHOT DOWN BY COLORADO IN THE SECOND HALF -- Colorado used some very hot second-half shooting to defeat USC 70-66 in Boulder, Colo. on Feb. 20. USC got off to a fast start and opened up a 22-8 lead 12 and a half minutes into the game, but Colorado regrouped and cut their deficit to 29-26 at halftime. The Buffaloes then made 11 of their first 15 shots after break, including 7 of 9 from 3-point range to take a 12-point lead at 56-44 at the 10:28 mark of the second half. USC then mounted a comeback to whittle the lead to three when Jonah Mathews hit a 3-pointer with 2:08 remaining to make it 67-64. With 1:36 remaining, Onyeka Okongwu had an offensive rebound and dunk to cut it to 67-66. USC did not score again and Wright added a FT for the final margin. USC was 2 of 11 from 3-point range, while Colorado made 11 of 26. Colorado made 60.7 percent of its second-half shots, including 57.1 from 3-point range (8 of 14). USC made 57.7 percent of its second-half shots. Onyeka Onkongwu had 21 points in his first game back after 2 games in concussion protocol and Jonah Mathews scored 17. Nick Rakocevic had a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds. Â
No. 24 ARIZONA ON DECK -- The Arizona Wildcats (19-7, 9-4) are coming off an 89-63 home win over Oregon State on Feb. 20. Arizona leads all Pac-12 teams with a 78.4 scoring average this season and has won six of its last seven games. Freshman forward Zeke Nnaji leads Arizona in scoring (16.4) and rebounding (8.8). USC lost 85-80 at Arizona on Feb. 6. USC has won six of its last nine games vs. Arizona at home, but trails in the all-time series 68-43 (with one win for each team vacated due to NCAA penalty, original record 69-44).
BOARD BROTHERS -- USC forwards Nick Rakocevic (8.8) and Onyeka Okongwu (8.8) are one of three pairs of teammates in Division I averaging 8.8 rebounds or more per game. The other schools with a tandem of rebounders averaging 8.8 rebounds or more per game are Eastern Washington and Saint Louis.
THE SURGING SENIOR -- Senior guard Jonah Mathews has averaged 14.6 points in the last 12 games (175 total). He scored in double figures in 7-straight games from Jan. 11-Feb. 1, the second-longest double-figure scoring streak of his career. Mathews has also made 40.3 percent of his 3-point shots in that stretch (27-for-67) and 81.0 percent of his free throws (34-for-42). Mathews now has 1,325 points, 18th on USC's all-time scoring list and his 237 career 3-pointers made is third on USC's all-time list behind Elijah Stewart (245) and Bennie Boatwright (243).
OKONGWU NEAR THE TOP OF THE CLASS -- Through his first 24 career games, Onyeka Okongwu is averaging 16.6 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.92 blocks per game, while shooting 61.7 percent from the field. His 70 total blocks are a USC freshman record, passing Taj Gibson (2007) who had 69. Among all freshmen nationally, he ranks first in field goal percentage (61.7), tied for first in total blocks (70) and blocks per game (2.92), third in offensive rebounds per game (3.33), tied for fifth in rebounds per game (8.8), tied for sixth in double-doubles (9) and eighth in points per game (16.6).  Â

ENFIELD'S WINNING WAYS -- USC head coach Andy Enfield has led USC to 129 victories which ranks fifth on USC's all-time list, three behind Henry Bibby who led USC to 132 wins.  Sam Berry is the winningest coach in USC history at 260, followed by Forrest Twogood at 251 and Bob Boyd at 216. USC has won 106 games combined in the last five seasons, the winningest five-year stretch in school history.
SUNDAY NO FUN DAY -- USC is 3-1 on Sundays this season, but lost its one Pac-12 Sunday contest (at Washington). Since the 2012 season, USC it tied for the most Sunday Pac-12 games played at 31 (Stanford) and is 7-23 in the first 30. USC is 1-13 in Pac-12 Sunday road games.
