No. 8 USC Takes on Crosstown Rival UCLA in Westwood Friday

Trojans look to extend 12-meet unbeaten streak.
The No. 8 USC women's swimming and diving team wraps up the regular season at crosstown rival UCLA on Friday (Feb. 14) in Westwood at 12 p.m. at the Spieker Aquatics Center.
The Trojans enter their final dual meet at 4-3 overall, 4-2 in the Pac-12. The Bruins are 7-2, 4-2.
This season, USC won its season-opener against Utah and swept Arizona and Arizona State on the road. With only 9 women competing due to illness, the Trojans resumed spring competition at Washington State where they downed the Cougars but fell to Minnesota at home on Jan. 17. Most recently, USC suffered losses to No.1 Cal (Jan. 31) and No. 5 Stanford (Feb. 1).
The USC women's swim team boasts 9 individual swims that rank among the top-25 in the country. Sophomore Laticia transom is fourth in the 200y free (1:43.27) and eighth in the 100y free (47.83). Marta Ciesla is 24th in the 50y free with a time of 22.21. Senior Louise Hansson holds two top-25 swims coming in third on the list in the 100y fly (50.05) and ninth in the 200y IM (1:56.17). Jemma Schlicht also has a spot in the top-25 in the 100y fly, coming in ninth with a 51.64. Her second top-25 swim is in the 100y back (52.43) where she sits at number 22. Catherine Sanchez is 12th in the 200y fly (1:55.67) and Isa Odgers is 17th in the 200y breast with a time of 2:09.46. USC is ranked among the top-10 in all three free relays and both medley relays.
USC-UCLA Series
The Trojans hold a 28-16-1 edge against the Bruins and have a 12-meet unbeaten streak, which includes 10 victories in a row from 2008-17 and the first tie in the series in 2018. The 10-meet win streak – which includes a still current five-meet win streak at home -- matched USC's previous best stretch of 10 in a row from 1994 to 2003 … Last year USC experienced a 181-117 victory at home, winning ten events including one relay … The schools tied 150-150 at UCLA in 2018. USC won seven events, but UCLA caught USC over the final two events to end Troy's 10-meet run … The Trojans' win in 2017 was a 172-128 home victory in which Troy set six pool records and five meet records. Preceding that was a 181-119 victory at UCLA in 2016 and a 174.5-125.5 home win in 2015 that featured five USC swimmers winning two events apiece. In 2014 in Westwood, USC won 165-135, breaking 10 Spieker Aquatics Center pool records and nine meet records in the process. USC defeated UCLA, 167.5-132.5, at USC in 2013. Troy won the 2012 clash in Westwood, 170-130, in a meet in which Trojan swimmers also broke a combined 10 Bruin pool records. That followed a 176-124 victory at USC in 2011, a 164.5-136.5 win at UCLA in 2010, a 160-140 rain-soaked 2009 home win and a 158-142 decision in Westwood in 2008. UCLA last won in 2007 when the Bruins clinched victory during the meet's final relay at McDonald's Swim Stadium. USC hasn't lost to UCLA in Westwood since 2004.
Crosstown Cup
The winner of the USC-UCLA dual meet scores 10 points toward the Crosstown Cup, awarded annually to the school with the most successful athletic year against the other. Points are awarded to the winner of each Trojan-Bruin head-to-head contest (100 points is the magic number).
SO FAR THIS SEASON
The Trojan women's squad enters the meet 4-3 overall, led by 12 Trojans who've already secured B cuts. Friday's dual marks the final regular season meet for the Trojans before traveling to Pac-12 Championships (Feb. 26-29).
The Trojans kicked off the season at the two-day, three-session Trojan Swim Invite that saw junior Marta Ciesla win the 100y free while sophomore Isa Odgers won the 200y breast and senior Catherine Sanchez captured the 200y fly. Sophomore Victor Johansson led the USC men with a win in the 1650y free.
Odgers then won a career-best three times (100-200y breast, 200y IM) to lead the USC women in their dual-meet opening win against Utah. Senior co-captain Louise Hansson, the two-time NCAA champion in the 100y fly, also made her season debut with a win in specialty. Sophomore Laticia Transom posted her first two-win day as a Trojan with victories in the 50y and 200y free. Sanchez won the 200y fly for the second meet in a row.
At the Art Adamson Invite hosted by Texas A&M, four swimmers combined for a total of seven individual event wins while competing against A&M, Stanford, Hawaii, and Air Force. Sophomore Alexei Sancov posted two record-setting times during the meet, first in the 200y IM with a 1:43.92 and also in the 200y fly with a 1:42.20, shattering the Trojan school record by 0.15 (set in 2006), taking first. Junior Nikola Miljenic set a Texas A&M pool record (22.44) during prelims in the men's 50 LCM free. Sophomore Victor Johansson took the 1650 free with a 14:47.27, earning a B cut.
The Trojan women won four relays during the invite, earning three A cuts in the 200y, 400y and 800y free relays. Senior Louise Hansson took the 200y IM (1:56.17) and 100y fly (50.05), earning the first NCAA A cut of the season for the Trojans. Laticia Transom won the 200y free (1:43.27) and 100y free (47.83).
To kick off the spring season, the unbeaten USC women's team traveled to Pullman, Wash., to compete against Washington State. Odgers recorded a meet-best three first-place finishes, winning the 100y (1:02.71) and 200y breast (2:13.04) and the 400y IM (4:25.16). Her performance at Washington State earned her Pac-12 swimmer of the week. Both Odgers (200y breast – 2:13.04) and Hansson (100y fly – 53.98) broke Gibb pool records and contributed to the 155-102 win over the Cougars.
The Trojans hosted Minnesota (Jan. 17) where sophomores Laticia Transom and Alexei Sancov each posted a pair wins against the Gophers. Marta Ciesla (22.92) led the USC sweep in the 50y free. Laticia Transom (23.07) and Jemma Schlicht (23.49) completed the USC 1-2-3 finish. Trojan senior Nikola Miljenic (20.60) led the USC sweep in the men's 50y free. Joao Ama (21.12) took second, Thomas Finello third (21.17) and Jan Collazo Torres finished fourth (21.30).

Hansson is a two-year captain and the defending NCAA champion in the 100-yard and 200-yard butterfly. Other All-Americans returning for the Trojans include Leach, redshirt seniors Kirsten Vose and Tatum Wade, junior Marta Ciesla and sophomore Laticia Transom.
Other key returners include junior Maggie Aroesty (2018 Pac-12 200-yard breaststroke champion), senior diver Naomi Gowlett (2019 Pac-12 platform runner-up) and NCAA vets like senior Catherine Sanchez and sophomore Jemma Schlicht.
