D'Souza Takes 36-Hole Lead At Southwestern Invitational

Trojans in second, seven back of host Pepperdine.
Junior Leon D'Souza fired a 36-hole, 6-under to take the individual lead at the Southwestern Invitational on Monday (Jan. 27), part of half the field that finished a full two rounds at North Ranch C.C. in Westlake Village, Calif., while the other half will complete the second round Tuesday morning after darkness ended play early.
USC, one of six teams still to finish the second round, is second at 7-over, seven strokes back of host and first-place Pepperdine. Arizona State is third at 8-over. The Trojans are looking to defend their 2019 tournament title.
D'Souza, who posted four rounds in the 60s in six stroke play efforts in the fall, picked up where he left off with a 6-under 138 (70-68). He was Troy's only player to finish both rounds today.
His first round featured an eagle on 6 and a pair of birdies en route to a 2-under 70. He went out at 1-under in the second round and, after a bogey on 10, closed his day with four birdies over his final eight holes.
Freshman Yuxin Lin is tied for 14th at 2-over on the strength of a strong, yet unfinished, second round. He began the day with a 6-over 78, but raced to a 4-under front 9 in the second round, where he still stands after 12 holes.
Sophomore Cameron Henry, likewise, picked up steam in the second round and was 2-under thru 15 when play stopped following his 6-over first round. He's tied for 25th at 4-over.
Junior Issei Tanabe is tied for 33rd at 5-over while senior Kyle Suppa is tied for 62nd at 14-over. Freshman Tyler Guo, playing individually, is tied for 57th at 12-over.
