Angela Kulikov Wins Singles Title at Milwaukee Tennis Classic

The Women of Troy kicked off the fall season with a big win in Milwaukee. Senior Angela Kulikov won the women's singles title at the Milwaukee Tennis Classic today (Sept. 23). By winning the tournament, Kulikov earns a wild card to the 2019 ITA Fall Nationals in Newport Beach, Calif. in November.
"Angela came into the tournament prepared to compete and executed her game plan throughout the event," said head coach Alison Swain. "It was tough to transition from indoors to outdoors throughout the weekend, but Angela handled it well and competed at an exceptionally high level."
Teammate, sophomore Danielle Willson went far in the tournament as well as she reached the semifinals, but fell to Miami's Daevenia Achong who would play Kulikov in the finals.
Two Trojan pairs made a run in the doubles tournament as Branstine/Neffa and Kulikov/Willson both reached the semifinal round.
Said Swain: "We had great results from everyone representing USC at the tournament, and it's exciting to begin the year by taking home a title in our first event."
USC also sent a group of Trojans to San Francisco to compete in the Battle in the Bay. Senior Sydney Van Alphen and sophomore Estella Jaeger made a run in the tournament and both reached the Round of 8.
Up next for the Trojans, No. 2 ranked Freshman/Newcomer Carson Branstine will make her collegiate debut at the ITA Oracle Masters in Malibu, Calif. beginning on Thursday (Sept. 26).
