No. 20 USC Bounces Back for Sweep of Long Beach State

Senior outside hitter Khalia Lanier led the Women of Troy to a 3-0 win with 17 kills and three aces
SAN DIEGO – No. 20 USC women's volleyball (6-4) bounced back from a loss to claim a 3-0 sweep (25-21, 25-11, 25-20) of Long Beach State (3-8) at the USD Invitational #2 at Jenny Craig Pavilion on Friday, Sept. 20.

KEY PLAYERS
- Sr. OH Khalia Lanier led the Trojans with 20 points earned on 17 kills (3e, 29att, .483) to go with five digs, two assists and three service aces.
- Jr. OH Brooke Botkin set a new career high with four of the Trojans' 12 service aces and had six kills and six digs.
- So. setter Raquel Lázaro dished out 38 assists and had eight digs to go with two kills and a service ace.
- Fr. OPP Emilia Weske collected 10 kills (3e, 18att, .389) and had four blocks and three digs.
- For the 49ers, Katie Kennedy led the way with eight kills. Hailey Harward had a team-high six digs. Tia Chavira ran the Long Beach State offense and had 20 assists.
- The Trojans scored four service aces and hit .250 with 15 kills (5e, 40att) to take a 25-21 win in the first set. Lanier led with five kills and had all three of her service in the opening frame.
- USC scored 15 more kills in the second set and had four more service aces but hit .684 and blew the set open with a big run to take a 25-11 victory and go up, 2-0, in the match. Lanier picked up six more kills and Botkin had two of her aces in the set.
- The Trojans and 49ers went back and forth in the third, but USC maintained a lead late in the set to come away with a 25-20 win and complete the sweep. The Trojans hit .458 in the third and scored four more aces.
- The Women of Troy begin Pac-12 play at crosstown rival UCLA on Wednesday (Sept. 25). The Trojans and the Bruins will meet at Pauley Pavilion for a 7:30 p.m. PT match which will be shown on Pac-12 Networks.
- USC improved to 29-10 all-time against Long Beach State.
- The Trojans improved to 47-13-1 in all-time matches played in the city of San Diego.
- The Women of Troy collected their third 3-0 sweep of the season.
