WACO, Texas – The No. 2 USC women's soccer team suffered its first draw of the season on Friday night in Texas, playing to a 2-2 final against Baylor.
The Trojans scored a pair of goals late in the first half, but couldn't find another after Baylor equalized with a pair of their own in the second half. USC moves to 7-0-1 on the year, while the Bears move to 3-2-3.
Jaelyn Eisenhart got USC on the board with just over five minutes to play in the first half, scoring the first goal of her collegiate career on a header in the box. Penelope Hocking would follow roughly three minutes later, beating a defender and keeper in the box for her seventh goal of the year.
The Bears had two quick scores early in the second half as Elena Reyna collected a bouncing ball and scored near the top of the box and then five minutes later Giuliana Cunningham scored in traffic just off the goal line.
USC had numerous chances late in the game and in overtime, but couldn't convert any of them. The Trojans escaped disaster late in regulation when Baylor had a shot go off the post and then a putback attempt go over the crossbar with just seconds left on the clock. USC outshot Baylor 24-16 in the game.
The draw breaks a seven-game winning streak to start the season for USC, but the 7-0-1 start is still the best record through eight games for a Trojan squad.
