SEATTLE, Wash. – The No. 3 USC women's soccer team bounced back from giving up an equalizing goal in the 84th minute, getting the game-winning score from Arlie Jones in overtime to beat Seattle 3-2 on Friday night.
The win moves USC to 7-0 on the year, extending the team's program best start to the year. Seattle falls to 3-3-1 with the loss.
The Trojans took a 2-1 lead into the second half after goals by Hocking and Jacobs in the first 45 minutes, and looked poised to ride the advantage to victory, but Leahi Manthei scored for the home team with just over six minutes to play.
The Trojans would come out firing in overtime and Penelope Hocking collected a long pass in the box and slid a pass over to Tara McKeown, whose shot was blocked, but the rebound fell right to Jones who sent home the game-winning score. It was her second goal of the year.
Hocking opened the scoring in the 23rd minute on a feed by McKeown, but less than 10 minutes later Seattle equalized on a set-piece that was headed in. Natalie Jacobs put USC back on top just 19 seconds before the first half ended, collecting a deflected pass in the box and firing it in.
