Annelus sets facility record & Thomas USC freshman record in 200m
USC had eight individuals and two relays advance to event finals during the first day of the 2019 Women's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas today (June 6). In addition, Angie Annelus set the facility record and Lanae-Tava Thomas set the USC freshman record in the 200m.

Women advancing to event finals on Saturday:
Angie Annelus (100m, 200m, 4x100m), Chanel Brissett (100m hurdles, 4x100m), Anna Cockrell (100m hurdles, 400m hurdles, 4x400m), Kyra Constantine (400m, 4x400m), Bailey Lear (4x400m), Kaelin Roberts (4x400m), TeeTee Terry (100m, 4x100m), Lanae-Tava Thomas (200m, 4x100m).

- The women's team began the NCAA Championships in style with the 4x100m relay team of Chanel Brissett, Angie Annelus, Lanae-Tava Thomas and TeeTee Terry winning its semifinal with a time of 42.53. That was the fastest qualifying time of the night and automatically advanced the Trojans to the event final on Saturday.
- Next, Anna Cockrell won the first 100m hurdles semifinal heat with a PR of 12.69 (+2.0), followed closely by Chanel Brissett who matched her legal PR of 12.70 (+2.0). Both runners automatically advanced to Saturday's final. Cockrell moved into second on USC's all-time list, dropping Brissett to third. Cockrell was third among the qualifiers and Brissett was fourth.
- Angie Annelus and TeeTee Terry automatically advanced to the 100m final on Saturday as Annelus won the first heat with a PR of 11.06 (+0.6) and Terry was right behind her in second with a season-best wind-legal time of 11.08 (+0.6). Lanae-Tava Thomas took third in the second semifinal heat with a PR of 11.16 (+0.6), but did not advance, posting the third-fastest non-automatic qualifying time to finish ninth overall. Annelus was fourth and Terry fifth among the qualifiers. Annelus moved to third and Thomas to eighth on USC's all-time list in the event. Thomas earned second team All-America status in the event.
- Kyra Constantine was next to advance to an event final when she placed second in the second women's 400m semfinals heat with a time of 51.71. Constantine ended up with the sixth-fastest time among the qualifiers.
- Anna Cockrell cruised to victory in the second women's 400m hurdles semifinal with a season-best time of 56.05 to automatically advance to the event final on Saturday. She had the fastest time among the qualifiers for the final.
- USC then had Angie Annelus and Lanae-Tava Thomas qualify to the women's 200m final running out of the third semifinal heat along with TeeTee Terry, who drew lane one. Annelus won the heat with a PR and facility record time of 22.35 (+1.3) to better her third-place standing on USC's all-time list. She had the fastest qualifying time. Thomas had a PR and USC freshman record time of 22.65 (+1.3) to finish third in the heat and sixth overall to advance. She also moved from ninth to sixth on USC's all-time 200m list. Terry had a time of 23.15 (+1.3) to finish sixth in the heat and 16th overall in the event to earn second team All-America honors.
- The women's 4x400m relay team of Bailey Lear, Kyra Constantine, Anna Cockrell and Kaelin Roberts won its semifinal heat and had the fastest qualifying time of 3:28.31. That time was a season best and moved the quartet from ninth to eighth on USC's all-time list.
- Margaux Jones was the final Trojan to compete on the day. She had a best long jump of 19-7.00/5.97m (+0.9) to finish 22nd in the women's long jump. She earned honorable mention All-America status in the event.
- Ayden Owens did not finish the decathlon due to pain in his knee, but he did win three individual events in the decathlon, more than any competitor with only the eventual champion winning as many as two events.
- Owens began the day 897 points behind the leader and 542 out of a scoring position due to his no height in the high jump yesterday, the fourth event. Undeterred by the setback, Owens continued to do his best winning the final event yesterday (400m) and then opening with a win the 110m hurdles today, despite being in the heat with a strong headwind. Owens had a time of 14.09 (-1.3) to lead all of the decathletes and earned 963 points in the event. After six events, he was in 18th place with 4,411 points, 423 out of a scoring position.
- There was over a five-hour delay between the first event and the second for Owens due to two weather delays. When things got going again, Owens had a best discus throw of 138-2 (42.13m) to finish third in the event and earn 708 points. After seven complete events, he had moved into 17th place with 5,119 points, 373 out of eighth.
- Owens then tied for 11th in the pole vault with a clearance of 14-5.50 (4.41m) to earn another 734 points to give him 5,853 points after eight events and he had moved into 16th place.
- Unfortunately, after competing in the decathlon pole vault, Owens pulled out of the competition with right knee pain.
