Samuel Places 6th in 400m Hurdles & Sears T-12th In High Jump At The NCAA Championships

Cameron Samuel finished sixth in the 400m hurdles and Earnest Sears III tied for 12th in the high jump   during the final day of the 2019 Men's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships held at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Austin, Texas today (June 7).  USC scored a total of six points to finish tied for 37th overall at the Championships. Earning first-team All-America honors during the two days of competition were Matthew Katnik (6th – Shot Put) and Cameron Samuel (6th – 400m hurdles).

- Sophomore Cameron Samuel running in the inner-most lane in the men's 400m hurdles final placed sixth with a time of 49.83. Samuel ended his strong season which included a Pac-12 title by earning first-team All-American honors in the event and he earned USC three points in the team competition. It was the 21st time a Trojan has scored in the 400m or 440y hurdles at the NCAA Championships.
- The sophomore Earnest Sears III entered the men's high jump competition at the opening height of 6-10.75 (2.10m) and cleared it in his first attempt, as did 22 other jumpers, with one taking three attempts and one passing. So at the second height of 7-0.50 (2.15m), all 24 jumpers remained in the competition. Sears cleared 7-0.50 (2.15) in his first attempt. It took him two attempts to clear the next height of 7-1.75 (2.18m) and he was one of 16 jumpers to advance to the next height. The next height was 7-3.00 (2.21m) and Sears could not clear it and finished tied for 12th to earn second-team All-America honors.  He ended his strong sophomore campaign as a Pac-12 champion and set his PR of 7-5.25 (2.27m) which ranks tied for third on USC's all-time list.
