May 18, 2019 | Baseball, Features
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team dropped a 10-7 decision to Oregon on Saturday afternoon at Dedeaux Field, setting up the rubber game on Sunday at 12 p.m.
The Trojans fall to 22-27-1 overall with the loss and 10-14-1 in Pac-12 play. Oregon moves to 27-25 overall and 10-16 in conference action.
USC fell behind 4-0 early, after the Ducks came up with the early runs on two walks, a hit and an error. The Trojans responded with a run in the bottom of the first and then scored two in the second to make it a 5-3 game. An RBI triple and run-scoring groundout gave Oregon a 7-3 advantage in the fourth.
Blake Sabol hit a solo-homer in the bottom of the fifth, but Oregon answered two innings later with what turned out to be the game-winning three-run homer from Jakob Goldfarb. The Trojans would mount an eighth inning rally, scoring on a wild pitch and then getting a two-run double from Chase Bushor, but Ducks closer Ryne Nelson then entered the game and shut down the USC momentum.
Chandler Champlain came in in relief in the first and would toss 4.0 innings before handing it off to Carson Lambert for 3.0 frames. Austin Manning and Chris Clarke tossed the final two innings. Brett Walker got the win for Oregon after 3.0 relief innings and Nelson picked up his fourth save.
