Trojans Take Series Over Ducks With 8-2 Win on Senior Day
May 19, 2019 | Baseball, Features
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team got stellar pitching and timely hitting to take the series over Oregon with an 8-2 win on Sunday at home.
USC, which moves to 23-27-1 overall and 11-14-1 in Pac-12 play, honored its senior class prior to the contest. Oregon falls to 27-26 overall, 10-17 in conference action with the loss.
Three Trojan arms, led by Kyle Hurt, held Oregon to just two hits on the day. Hurt tossed six strong innings, giving up just one hit and two runs. John Beller followed with two shutout frames and Chris Clarke pitched a scoreless ninth.
USC went on top with three runs in the bottom of the second, getting an RBI single from CJ Stubbs and a two-run single from Ben Ramirez. The visiting Ducks would answer with a two-run single from Spencer Steer in the top of the third, but that was it offensively for Oregon, which collected just one hit the rest of the way.
Senior Brandon Perez doubled in two runs in the sixth and Matthew Acosta gave USC plenty of insurance with a three-run homer to right in the seventh.
It was the Trojans' fourth series win since the start of conference play.
