Trojans Fall Short in Extra Innings Against No. 19 UC Irvine, 12-9

The Trojans fall to 17-21-1 on the season, while UC Irvine moves to 26-9.
In a game that went back and forth all night, the visiting Anteaters jumped out to a 5-0 lead even before the first out was made. Chandler Champlain would come in in relief and settle things down, tossing four scoreless innings after the first. The Trojan bats then started to rally.
USC got a two-run homer from Clay Owens in the second and then tied things up when Tyler Lozano blooped in an RBI double and Brady Shockey hit a two-run shot in the fourth. USC would continue to put the pressure on, scoring four runs in the fifth to go up 9-5. Matthew Acosta and Ben Ramirez each singled home runs in the inning, and Lozano drove in two more with a single as well.
UC Irvine had an answer in the top of the sixth, scoring four runs of their own to tie it up. Both pitching staffs put up zeroes through the next three innings to force extras. The Anteaters then scored two runs on wild pitches and got an RBI single from Connor Zickefoose to take the final 12-9 lead in the 10th.
