Women of Troy Perform Well At First Day Of Lake Natoma Invitational

The No. 12 ranked USC women's rowing team hit the waters of Lake Natoma today (April 13) and competed against some strong national competition. In each race of the morning wave, USC placed second behind No. 6 Brown and beat Miami. In the afternoon wave, the Trojans placed second behind No. 3 Stanford and beat Tulsa.
"We had a good set of races against No. 6 Brown and Miami this morning," said head coach Josh Adam. "As a team, we were much more accountable to our speed and the rhythm in our boats. The 1V4+ raced consistently and powerful. The 2V8+ raced an aggressive race plan and learned a lot about their speed. The 1V8+ had a tight race with Brown from start to finish. Unfortunately, we ended .66 on the wrong side. The women now know what they can do to improve."

The morning began with the varsity four racing first. Coxed by Olivia Lau, the Trojans came in second place behind Brown with a time of 7:17.14, but beat Miami by 15 seconds. Bridget Parker powered the stroke followed by Amanda Sutrick, Amanda Lauren Blonien and Anicka Mackova in the bow.
Up next was the second varsity eight. The Women of Troy placed second behind Brown by eight seconds with a time of 6:41.01 and beating Miami by 24 seconds. Maddy Kim guided the Trojan boat with in the Brooke Downes stroke. Downes was followed by , Marliis Reinkort, Margaret Lena Schröder, Ryleigh Megill, Molly Eberth, Margaret Cirino, Olivia Passanisi-Boullet and Ieva Medelinskaite in the bow.
Finally the USC varsity eight wrapped up the morning. Coxed by Annika Christensen, the Trojans placed second behind Brown by .66 seconds with a final time of 6:26.56. They beat Miami by 27 seconds. Chloe Brew stroked for the Trojans and was followed by Ludovica Braglia, Radka Novotnikova, Krete Koovit, Astrid Steensberg, Claudia Cabula, Kasia Pilch and Dori Bene in the bow.
In the afternoon, the Trojans faced No. 3 Stanford and Tulsa with the same lineups as the morning races.
"We came back out after the break ready to race against Stanford and Tulsa," said Adam. "As a team, we tried to capitalize on our rhythm from the morning races. The 1V4+ raced aggressively and learned a lot about how they can improve tomorrow. The 2V8+ raced a much longer, powerful rhythm this afternoon. They applied the lessons from the morning races well. The 1V8+ really attacked Stanford for the entire 2k. The margin was good for us right now."
The Trojans placed second in the varsity four, second varsity eight and varsity eight behind Stanford with times of 7:31.5, 6:39.5 and 6:20.3 respectively.
USC resumes action tomorrow morning when they challenge Notre Dame and Gonzaga.
