Women of Troy Complete First Day of Pac-12 Challenge

The No. 11 ranked USC women's rowing team took to the water in Redwood Shores today (March 30) and won three of six races. The Trojans challenged No. 12 Iowa in the morning race where they placed first in the second varsity eight and the varsity four. In the afternoon wave against No. 7 Virginia, the Trojans won the varsity eight race.
"In the morning races against Iowa, we had some well executed skills and had some growth edges reveal themselves," said head coach Josh Adam. "The 1V8 struggled in executing what we had been working on in practice and didn't ever find a rhythm. However, the women knew they could do better and were ready to make the necessary adjustments. The 2V8 had a really great race where they were down early and had to work their way back into contention. It was great to watch the result. The 1V4 had a really long, smooth rhythm in their race that allowed everyone to really execute some good power per stroke for the entire 2,000 meters.
"In the afternoon races against Virginia, there was a palpable sense of positivity. The 1V8 executed a much better race and came away with a win. The 2V8 raced Virginia aggressively and held a tight margin from start to finish. And the 1V4 continued on with their confident rhythm from the morning into a great afternoon race.
"Overall, it was a good learning set of races for us, and we are excited to race Wisconsin in the morning," said Adam.

The morning began with the varsity eight hitting the water first. Coxed by Maddy Kim, the Trojans came in second place behind the Hawkeyes with a time of 6:38.8. Dorottya Bene stroked for the Trojans and was followed by Kasia Pilch, Chloe Brew, Astrid Steensberg, Claudia Cabula, Marliis Reinkort, Brooke Downes and Radka Novotnikova in the bow.
Up next, the second varsity eight took on Iowa and came out on top with a final time of 6:34.7. Annika Christensen guided the Trojan boat with Krete Koovit in the stroke. Koovit was followed by Ludovica Braglia, Lena Schröder, Ryleigh Megill, Molly Eberth, Taylor Richardson, Olivia Passanisi-Boullet and Ieva Medelinskaite in the bow.
Wrapping up the morning was the varsity four. Coxed by Olivia Lau, the Women of Troy won the race clocking in a time of 7:26.5. Bridget Parker powered the stroke followed by Amanda Sutrick, Lauren Blonien and Anicka Mackova in the bow.
In the afternoon, the Trojans faced No. 7 Virginia with the same lineups as the morning race.
The USC varsity eight beat the Cavaliers with a time of 6:32.17, but the second varsity eight and varsity four placed second behind Virginia with respective times of 6:48.5 and 7:33.6.
USC resumes action tomorrow morning when they face No. 13 Wisconsin.
