No. 24 USC Tops San Diego State, 20-16, in First Road Test

Junior midfielder Kerrigan Miller posted career marks with seven draw controls and six ground balls in the victory
SAN DIEGO – The No. 24-ranked USC lacrosse team (2-0) collected a 20-16 victory over San Diego State (2-1) at the Aztec Lacrosse Field on Friday, Feb. 22, to start the season 2-0 for the third time in program history (2016, 2017).

KEY PLAYERS
- Senior attacker Emily Concialdi scored a career-high five goals and collected her fourth-career hat trick game.
- Sophomore midfielder Kelsey Huff scored a career-high five goals for her seventh-career hat trick game. Huff also caused two turnovers and secured one draw control.
- Junior attacker Izzy McMahon scored three goals for her fifth-career USC hat trick and added a draw control and ground ball.
- Junior midfielder Kerrigan Miller scored two goals and led the Trojans with a career-high matching seven draw controls and a new career-best six ground balls.
- Sophomore defender Lizzy Wagner turned in a career-high with five ground balls and matched her career best with two caused turnovers.
- In goal, sophomore Riley Hertford earned the win and produced seven saves and three ground balls in 54 minutes.
- For San Diego State, Taylor Sullivan (5) and Caitlin Jones (4) led the offense. Katy Sharretts put up 17 saves in defeat. Taylor Morgan and Bailey Brown each scored two goals apiece.
- The Trojans scored the first four goals of the game and led the Aztecs, 8-2, before 15 minutes had elapsed. USC produced another 8-2 run and led, 16-7, at halftime. McMahon secured her hat trick in the first half as the Trojans out-shot SDSU, 32-12, and won the draw circle by a 14-6 count.
- San Diego State scored the first three goals of the second half to complete a 4-0 run. Despite two goals from Concialdi and Huff to stem the tide, SDSU was unfazed and went on another 5-0 scoring run to close within three goals at 18-15 with 6:02 remaining in the second half.
- SDSU's big second-half burst included five of the Aztecs' 11 free-position goals.
- Huff scored at 5:03 in the second half for a 19-15 lead, but Sullivan's fifth goal of the game brought the Aztecs within three once more. The Trojans controlled possession and got the game's final goal from Huff at 1:26 to seal the victory.
- The Trojans return home to host Jacksonville (1-0) at McAlister Field on Sunday, Feb. 24. First draw is set for noon PT. A special post-game autograph session with the Women of Troy will take place on the field.
- USC improved to 8-0 all-time against San Diego State including 4-0 in the city of San Diego.
- The Trojans improved to 2-0 for the program's third 2-0 start (2016, 2017).
- USC's 16 first-half goals matched the program record for most goals in a single half. USC's other 16-goal half came in an 18-9 win over UC Davis on April 23, 2017.
