October 13, 2019 | Women's Soccer, Features
LOS ANGELES – The No. 4 USC women's soccer team scored twice in the second half and withstood a late push by Colorado to beat the Buffaloes 2-1 at home on Saturday afternoon.
The Trojans' stellar frontline of Tara McKeown and Penelope Hocking each scored in the game, as USC moves to 11-1-1 overall and 4-1-0 in Pac-12 play. Colorado falls to 9-4-1 on the year and 1-3-1 in conference action.
USC created the majority of the chances in the first half, outshooting the Buffaloes 12-3 in the first 45 minutes, but neither team could come away with a goal. That changed just over three minutes into the second half, when Hocking received a pass from McKeown deep in the box and put it in off the far post.
Colorado would find the equalizer on a headed in corner in the 55th minute, but the tie was short-lived as USC scored just over a minute later. McKeown this time finished a beautiful cross from Savianna Gomez, heading the ball in for her 12th goal of the year.
Colorado threw pressed hard for a late equalizer in the final 10 minutes, but the Trojan defense held fast and did not allow a late shot, despite the pressure. USC gave up just two shots in the second half, as the Trojans outshot Colorado 24-5 in the game.
