Trojan Volleyball Beats Buffaloes in Boulder

Senior outside hitter Khalia Lanier led the Women of Troy with 24 points and 21 kills
BOULDER, Colo. – USC women's volleyball (9-6, 3-2 Pac-12) completed a four-set win (26-24, 25-20, 23-25, 25-23) over Colorado (8-7, 0-5) at the CU Events Center on Friday, Oct. 11.

KEY PLAYERS
- Sr. OH Khalia Lanier scored 24 points and had 21 kills (7e, 46att, .304) with three blocks, three digs, and one service ace. She moved into sixth place at USC for career kills (ahead of Lonise Norfleet, 1987-90) and now has 1,643.
- Jr. OH Brooke Botkin had 13 kills (6e, 34att, .206) with six digs and three blocks.
- Sr. MB Jasmine Gross scored 11 kills (1e, 22att) and hit .455 to go with eight blocks (15 points).
- So. setter Raquel Lázaro dished out 47 assists and put up her ninth double-double of the season (21st career) with 15 digs. Lázaro also had four blocks, one kill, and one service ace.
- Sr. libero Raegan LeGrand collected 12 digs.
- For the Buffaloes, Justine Spann had 18 kills and Elissa Alcantara had 12. Rachel Whipple led the CU defense with 17 digs while Jenna Ewart had 13 with 41 assists for a double-double. Lillie Klemmer had seven blocks and scored three kills.
- USC hit .286 in the opening set and scored 16 kills to pull out a 26-24 win despite falling behind the Buffaloes on several occasions to start the match. CU led by as many as four points but ended the set hitting .171 in the loss. Lanier racked up nine of her 21 kills in the opening frame alone.
- The Trojans mounted a big run in the second set to grab a 2-0 lead in the match on a 25-20 win. USC scored 15 more kills and held the Buffaloes to a .188 outing.
- Colorado raced out to an early 7-2 lead and led by five, 20-15, in the third. USC pulled even with the Buffs at 23-all, but CU forced a fourth set by holding off the Women of Troy.
- USC fell behind by four early in the fourth set, but fought back to tie the score at 12-all. The Trojans led, 20-17, but allowed the Buffaloes to tie the score at 23-all. This time, USC prevailed when the Trojans collected their 12th block of the night.
- The Trojans had seven aces on the night from six different players and out-hit the Buffaloes, .289 to .248.
- The Trojans head to Salt Lake City to take on No. 18 Utah (12-4, 4-1 Pac-12) on Sunday, Oct. 13, at the Jon M. Huntsman Center. The Utes defeated UCLA in three sets tonight. The USC-Utah match will be shown live at 11 a.m. PT (noon MT) on Pac-12 Los Angeles and Pac-12 Mountain.
- USC improved to 17-1 all-time against Colorado; 8-1 as CU's visitor. The Trojans also moved to 12-3 in the state of Colorado.
- The Trojans played their eighth four-set match this season and improved to 5-3 in those contests.
- USC had only 10 players available for the match and started its 11th different lineup in 15 matches.
