USC junior forward Nick Rakocevic was named the Pac-12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the week of Dec. 31-Jan. 6 as voted on by league media, it was announced today (Jan. 7). It is the first Pac-12 Player of the Week honor for Rakocevic.
Rakocevic averaged 25.0 points and 9.0 rebounds while leading the Trojans to home wins over California (82-73) and Stanford (77-66). He was a key reason USC opened Pac-12 play with two wins for the first time since the 2009-10 season and ran its winning streak to four games. Rakocevic made 69.7 percent of his shots for the week, including a stretch of 15 consecutive made baskets from the first half of the California game on Jan. 3 game to the first half of the Stanford game on Jan. 6.
The 6-11 Chicago native scored a career-high 27 points in the win against California, making 12 of 14 shots and grabbing eight rebounds. Rakocevic followed that up with his seventh double-double of the season, with 23 points and 10 rebounds in the win against Stanford. His seven double-doubles this season lead all Pac-12 players.
Rakocevic is averaging 15.7 points and a conference-leading 10.1 rebounds per game.
