The Women of Troy had three players notch 13 kills apiece in a loss to the third-ranked Cougars
MILWAUKEE, Wis. – The 10th-ranked USC women's volleyball team (5-2) suffered a 3-0 sweep (30-28, 25-21, 25-14) to No. 3 BYU (6-0) at the Marquette Invitational at Al McGuire Center on Friday, Sept. 7.

KEY PLAYERS
- Jr. OH Khalia Lanier logged her fourth double-double of the season (29th career) with 13 kills (2e, 40att, .275) and 15 digs. She also served two aces and recorded a block and an assist.
- Jr. OH Emily Baptista scored 13 kills (2e, 31att, .355) with three blocks and two digs.
- So. OH Brooke Botkin was the third Trojan to notch 13 kills (9e, 41att, .098) and had six digs and a block.
- Jr. MB Jasmine Gross hit .462 and had six kills without an error on 13 swings. Gross led the Trojans in blocks with four.
- Fr. setter Raquel Lázaro dished out 35 assists and had eight digs.
- For the Cougars, Veronica Jones-Perry led all scorers with 26 kills (3e, 52att, .442) and had two blocks and three digs. McKenna Miller logged eight kills (2e, 27att, .222) with five digs and had five of BYU's nine service aces. Setter Lynda Haddock-Eppich recorded 34 assists with 11 digs for a double-double and added four kills, three blocks, and a service ace.Â
- USC out-hit BYU, .259 to .211, in the first set and had set point opportunities; but the Cougars scored the final two points on the set's ninth lead change to secure a 30-28 win.
- Jones-Perry recorded 10 kills in each of the first to sets and helped lead BYU's second set 25-21 win.
- BYU hit .429 and was errorless with 15 kills on 35 swings in the third set. The Cougar block came alive and kept USC at bay until the Trojans mounted a short comeback in the back half of the frame, but it was too late as BYU took a 25-14 win to complete the 3-0 sweep.
- USC has only a couple hours to rest before it faces tournament host No. 25-ranked Marquette (5-1) at 7 p.m. CT (5 p.m. PT). The Trojans and the Golden Eagles will be shown live on Marquette's All-Access stream channel. USC and Marquette are split, 1-1, in the teams' previous two meetings.
- USC fell to 12-6 all-time against BYU and had a five-match winning streak over the Cougars snapped.
- The Women of Troy dropped to 6-2 in all-time matches played in the state of Wisconsin.
