Paulson's Six RBI lead USC Past Cal, 11-4

USC erased an early 1-0 deficit with six runs in the third inning and then five runs in the fourth to cruise to the victory and move to 20-21 overall and 8-14 in Pac-12 play. Cal drops to 25-18 overall and 10-12 in conference action with the loss.
The Trojans manufactured three early runs in the third on a groundout, bases-loaded walk and RBI single before Paulson came up with the bases loaded and smacked a double into the gap in right-center to clear the bases. Paulson would come up with two runners on the very next inning and crush a ball over the scoreboard in right field for his seventh homer of the year. Chase Bushor and Stephen Dubb each drove in runs before Paulson's three-run shot.
Kyle Hurt and Chris Clarke did the rest on the mound to help USC finish things off, with Hurt working into the seventh inning and giving up eight hits and four runs. Clarke came on with the bases loaded in the seventh and after allowing a pair of inherited runners to score, he settled in and got a flyout and groundout to end the inning. Clarke wouldn't allow a run the rest of the way, giving up one hit and no runs.
Five different Trojans had multi-hit games on the day as USC posted its 11th game with double-digit hits this season.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Paulson went 2-for-3 with a homer, double, walk and six RBI. His seven homers lead the team.
- Bushor was 2-for-3 at the plate with two runs scored, one RBI and one walk.
- Matthew Acosta was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
- Dubb was 1-for-3 with two RBI, two runs scored and a walk.
- Hurt picked up the win to move to 4-4 on the year, scattering eight hits and giving up four runs.
- Clarke tossed the final 2.2 innings, giving up one hit and no runs, while striking out three batters and walking none.
