LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team couldn't come back from an early 5-0 deficit on Friday night, falling to CSUN 9-3 in the second game of a three-game series.
The Trojans fall to 25-28 with the loss, while the Matadors move to 28-29 on the year.
CSUN came up with five runs in the top of the first inning, two of which were unearned, getting a two-run homer from Albee Weiss.
Isaac Esqueda came in and tossed four scoreless relief innings before giving up three earned runs in the sixth. Chris Clarke would throw the final 4.0 innings, giving up just two hits.
USC came up with a run in the second on an RBI single by Brandon Perez and then the Trojans put up a pair of runs in the third on a groundout and sacrifice fly.
Jason Newman got the win for CSUN with 3.1 scoreless relief innings.
