Trojans Close Season With 8-4 Win Over CSUN

Notbaar hit a go-ahead three-run homer and Paulson homered twice to move USC to 26-28 on the year, while the Matadors fall to 28-30.
Solomon Bates finished the year with his fourth consecutive start throwing at least seven innings, tossing 7.0 frames while scattering seven hits and giving up just two earned runs. Bates struck out seven and walked just one to move to 6-3 on the year.
Throwing for the first time since March 4, Brad Wegman came in and tossed a perfect eighth and then John Beller finished things off in the ninth, giving up just one unearned run.
CSUN scored in the second and fifth innings to take a 2-0 lead, but USC came back to tie things with a two-run single by Kaleb Murphy in the bottom of the fifth. Albee Weiss briefly put the Matadors back on top with a solo homer in the sixth, but the Trojan offense exploded in the bottom half of the inning, with Nootbaar hitting a three-run shot and Paulson immediately following with a solo homer.
Paulson would cap things off with a two-run shot in the seventh. He finishes the year with a team-high 10 homers and 41 RBI.
USC opened the day by honoring its six graduating seniors; Angelo Armenta, RJ Bates, Stephen Dubb, Mitch Hart, Mason Perryman and Wegman.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Paulson was 2-for-4 at the plate, with two homers, three RBI and two runs scored. It was his second two-homer day of the year.
- Nootbaar finished 2-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored as well, hitting his sixth homer of the year in the game.
- Bates tossed 7.0 innings, giving up seven hits and two earned runs, while striking out seven and walking just one. He finishes the year with a 3.14 ERA.
