Pick Six: Paige Hauschild Earns Her Sixth MPSF Newcomer of the Week Award
April 03, 2018 | Women's Water Polo, Features
After a seven-goal explosion vs. Hartwick, the freshman has her fourth straight MPSF honor and sixth overall.
USC freshman Paige Hauschild has set a conference record in picking up four consecutive MPSF Newcomer of the Week honors. This week's pick — the sixth of Hauschild's freshman campaign — comes after Hauschild delivered the second straight seven-goal game by a Trojan, following sophomore Maud Megens' seven the week prior.
On seven shots taken, Hauschild scored seven times – the third most goals by a Trojan in a single game – and added three steals and an assist, all while staying a perfect 4-for-4 on opening sprints as USC beat No. 12 Hartwick 21-9 last week. Hauschild now holds 50 goals on the year, becoming the sixth USC true freshman to score 50 or more goals. USC improved to 17-1 overall with the win.
Hauschild and the No. 3 Trojans are in home waters again this week, setting up to host No. 2 California in a key MPSF matchup at 5 p.m. on Saturday (April 7) at Uytengsu Aquatics Center.
