Trojans looking for first conference titles since 2011.
Junior Justin Suh continued his torrid pace with a third-round 65 to build a six-stroke lead and help No. 21 USC remain in first place after 54 holes of the 2018 Pac-12 Men's Golf Championships at the Rolling Hills C.C. on Tuesday (April 24) in Rolling Hills Estates.
The Trojans began and finished the day with a 5-stroke lead, seeing it swell to double digits midway through the round before returning back to its original total. USC will begin the final round at 27-under 1038 (347-340-351), five strokes better than Arizona State, which turned in the best third round at 14-under 341. Colorado remained third at 19-under.
That trio will tee off at 9:06 a.m. while the earlier wave starts at 8 a.m.
USC is looking for its first team title since 2011 and Suh is trying for the Trojans' first conference individual crown since the same season, when Martin Trainer won a 7-hole playoff.
Suh, with seven third-round birdies, now sits at 16-under 197 (68-64-65), six ahead of Arizona's George Cunningham, seven ahead of Arizona State's Koichiro Ishika. Five players are tied for fourth at 8-under. Suh's 16-under through 54 holes is his best total as a Trojan and the first such effort at USC since Rico Hoey at the 2017 Amer Ari Invitational.
Suh's first three rounds here give him 20 rounds in the 60s this season, the most at USC since Jamie Lovemark's 20 in 2007. He now also boasts 22 rounds under par.
Sophomore Ryan Slater, who had three birdies today, is tied for 19th at 4-under 209 (69-69-71), his best 54-hole as a Trojan.
Sophomore Cheng Jin (68-71-71) and freshman Kaito Onishi (75-64-71) are tied for 19th at 3-under 210. Jin had four birdies in the third round, Onishi three.
Freshman Issei Tanabe is tied for 38th at 3-over 216 (70-73-73) while sophomore Kyle Suppa is tied for 55th at 6-over 219 (72-72-75).
