The UCLA bats again proved relentless, putting up multiple runs in four different innings to run away with it. USC falls to 18-17 overall and 6-11 in Pac-12 play, while the Bruins move to 24-10 overall and 13-4 in conference action.
UCLA put up a pair of runs in the first, but USC got an answer from Ben Ramirez, who hit a solo-homer in the top of the second to make it a 2-1 game. The Bruins would score three runs in the third, but the Trojans again kept it close in the next half inning, getting an RBI double from Chase Bushor to keep the deficit within three.
A six-run fifth inning for the home team would put the game out of reach, however. UCLA also had a four-run seventh and three runs in the eighth. Zach Pettway tossed 6.2 innings for the Bruins, giving up six hits and two runs.
TOP PERFORMERS
- Ramirez hit his second homer of the year.
- Bushor had two hits on the day including a double, and drove in one run.
COMING UP
USC closes the series at UCLA out tomorrow at 12 p.m. The Trojans then take on Long Beach at home on Tuesday before heading to Oregon for a three-game series next weekend.
