Trojans Fall 7-3 in Finale at No. 15 UCLA
April 22, 2018 | Baseball, Features
LOS ANGELES – The USC baseball team dropped the series finale at No. 15 UCLA on Sunday, falling 7-3 in the final game to the Bruins.
The Trojans fall to 18-18 overall on the year and 6-12 in Pac-12 play, while UCLA moves to 25-10 overall and 14-4 in conference action.
UCLA scored on a squeeze play in the second inning to go up 1-0 and then added a run on a wild pitch in the fourth to make it 2-0. The Trojan defense did its part to keep things close, though, throwing a runner out at the plate in the fourth and turning double plays in both the first and third innings to strand runners. Daniel Rosica would later single in a run for the Bruins to make it 3-0 in the sixth.
Lars Nootbaar finally got the Trojans on the board with a two-run shot in the top of the seventh inning, but UCLA would come right back with four runs of their own in the bottom half of the inning to go up 7-2. Matthew Acosta would double in a run in the ninth, but the Trojans couldn't rally any further.
