Trojans Face Trio of Top 15 Opponents in Dodger Stadium Classic

THIS WEEK: The USC baseball team plays a trio of Top 15 opponents in the Dodger Stadium College Baseball Classic this week. The Trojans take host No. 8 TCU on Friday and No. 15 Vanderbilt on Saturday, and then head to Dodger Stadium to face crosstown rival, No. 11 UCLA, on Sunday.

After dropping the opener, the Trojans picked up a 3-1 win on Saturday in front of a record crowd of 13,472. Quentin Longrie tossed 7.1 innings, scattering eight hits and giving up just one run. USC narrowly missed a series win on Sunday, falling 7-6 in the final inning of a travel curfew shortened eight-inning game.

ON THE DEFENSIVE: The Trojans lead the nation with a .997 fielding percentage. USC has just one error in 11 games this season.

WALK ON: Lars Nootbaar has worked 17 walks in 11 games so far, leading the Pac-12 in base-on-balls and sitting third in the country. Dillon Paulson has also worked 12 walks this year, putting him 41st in the country and fourth in the Pac-12 in that category. Paulson owns a .489 on-base percentage, highest on the team among players with at least 10 games played. As a team, USC's 62 walks are second in the Pac-12 and 40th in the nation, while the team's .388 OBP is fourth in the Pac-12.

KEEP WALKING: The Trojans worked a 10-walk inning in their series opener night against Villanova (2/23), a total that is tied for the second most walks ever worked by a team in a single inning. The only total higher on the list came from TCU (11) exactly 20 years to the day (2/23/98) from Friday's game.

FRESH FACES: Currently leading the Trojans in batting average are three new faces to the roster, with junior transfer Chase Bushor hitting a team-best .433, freshman Ben Ramirez second on the team at .385 and fellow freshman Jamal O'Guinn hitting .368. CELEBRATE THE 8'S: 2018 marks a special anniversary year, with the Trojans having five championship milestones to celebrate. The USC program won NCAA College World Series titles in 1948, 1958, 1968, 1978 and 1998. USC is the only school that can boast such a feat, with the five titles part of the Trojans' NCAA best 12 overall championships. The program will be celebrating all five of the milestones at a game later in the season and will have content from each one over the course of the year.
