March 04, 2018 | Baseball, Features
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The USC baseball team dropped a 7-6 heartbreaker in its finale at No. 5 Arkansas on Sunday afternoon, in a game that was shortened to eight innings due to travel restrictions.
Arkansas scored two runs in the final frame to drop the Trojans to 8-3 on the year. The Razorbacks improve to 9-3.
USC led 6-5 heading into the eighth and final inning, but Eric Cole hit an RBI triple to tie the game and Dominic Fletcher came up with the walk-off RBI single.
The Trojans came up with four runs in the fifth inning to break open a 1-1 ballgame, scoring two on a double by Dillon Paulson, one on a Matthew Acosta single and the final run of the inning on an Arkansas throwing error. USC also capitalized on a Razorback error to tie the game up in the fourth inning after Stephen Dubb doubled down the line, the ball got away on the throw back into the infield and Jamal O'Guinn was able to score from third.
Arkansas came up with a four-run inning of their own in the sixth, evening the score thanks to a pair of RBI singles, an RBI groundout and a wild pitch. Blake Sabol would answer in the top of the seventh for the Trojans, driving in a run with a two-out single through the right side.
