No. 5 Pepperdine Men's Volleyball Sweeps USC

Trojans now host No. 3 UCLA on Saturday in regular season home finale.
David Wieczorek had 15 kills and Alex Harthaller added 13 kills, 7 digs and 3 aces to lead the No. 5-ranked Pepperdine men's volleyball team to a 25-20, 26-24, 25-23 sweep over USC in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Thursday (March 29) in USC's Galen Center.
Pepperdine improved to 14-6 overall and 7-4 in the MPSF, while USC dropped to 6-17 overall and 2-7 in the MPSF.
Jack Wyett led USC with 14 kills while hitting .423 and he had 8 digs, Gianluca Grasso added 11 kills (hitting .417), Ryan Moss had 8 kills and 7 digs and Cole Paxson had 11 digs.
Harthaller hit .440 for the Waves. Spencer Wickens and Colby Harriman each had 7 digs for Pepperdine, while Michael Wicker had 3 aces.
???????Pepperdine hit .315 to USC's .292. The Waves had more digs (39 to 35) and aces (7 to 5), while the Trojans had more blocks (5.0 to 4.5).
USC fought back from a 17-13 deficit in the first set to tie it at 19-19, but Pepperdine scored the next 2 points and was able to close out the set by tallying 6 of the final 7 points while hitting .429 overall. The second set was tight throughout before the Waves scored the set's final 2 points (Pepperdine had 16 digs and 3 aces in the set). USC built a 13-8 lead in the third set, but Pepperdine tied it at 16-16 and the Waves soon after scored back-to-back points to go up 19-17, a lead they never relinquished while closing out the match.
USC next hosts crosstown rival No. 3 UCLA in the Trojans' final regular season home match on Saturday (March 31) at 7 p.m. PT. The contest will be shown live on Pac-12 Network and Pac-12 Los Angeles.
