Sophomore Denise Mammolito earns her first MPSF Player of the Week award.
USC women's water polo has claimed its third sweep of the MPSF's weekly awards this season, with Denise Mammolito earning her first career selection as MPSF Player of the Week while freshman Paige Hauschild picks up her fifth MPSF Newcomer of the Week award of the year.
In order to clay claim to her first weekly conference accolades, sophomore Denise Mammolito scored nine goals across three USC wins, including a hat trick in the Trojans' 12-6 MPSF win at No. 6 Arizona State. Mammolito scored all three of her goals on three shots taken in the first half to help USC lead it 7-4 at halftime. She also had an assist and a steal in the victory over the Sun Devils. Mammolito started the week with two goals and four steals in USC's 17-4 win over No. 15 Princeton, and she'd finish it with a career-high four goals in a 19-3 USC victory over No. 8 Princeton. Mammolito now stands as USC's second leading scorer on the year with 31 goals, already surpassing her freshman season total of 28 goals.
Now with three straight MPSF Newcomer of the Week selections to mark her fifth overall on the year, Paige Hauschild was 11-for-11 on opening sprints to go along with seven goals scored across those three USC wins. Hauschild had her hat trick in place by halftime of USC's win over No. 15 Princeton. In USC's MPSF win at No. 6 Arizona State, Hauschild had a goal, an assist and a steal while winning all four opening sprints. The next day, Hauschild scored three goals and added two steals and an assist in USC's victory over No. 8 Pacific. Hauschild leads USC's scoring attack this season with 43 goals, closing in on becoming the sixth true freshman to hit 50 or more goals in their first year as a Trojan.
This is the third MPSF sweep for USC this season, following Jan. 16 selections for Maud Megens and Hauschild and a Feb. 13 sweep with Amanda Longan and Hauschild.
Mammolito, Hauschild and the Women of Troy have one game on tap this week, hosting Hartwick in a 12 p.m. contest on Saturday (March 31) at Uytensgu Aquatics Center.
