USC Men's Volleyball Comes Back To Win At Stanford

Jack Wyett had 15 kills and Sam Lewis adds 12 kills and 6 blocks.
Jack Wyett had 15 kills and Sam Lewis added 12 kills and 6 blocks to help the USC men's volleyball team come back to defeat Stanford on the road, 21-25, 25-22, 25-23, 26-24, in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match on Saturday (March 17) in Palo Alto.
USC improved to 6-15 overall and 2-5 in the MPSF, while Stanford fell to 4-17 overall and 1-7 in the MPSF.
Gianluca Grasso added 7 kills, 4 blocks and 3 aces for USC, while teammate Ryan Moss had 7 kills while hitting .438.
For Stanford, Jaylen Jasper had 20 kills and 7 digs, Kyler Presho added 10 kills and 4 blocks, Kevin Rakestraw had 6 kills and 6 blocks, Leo Henken served 4 aces and Evan Enriques had 13 digs.
USC outhit the Cardinal, .271 to .202, and the Trojans had more blocks (12.0 to 10.0). But Stanford had more digs (40 to 28).
The first set was tied at 12-12 before Stanford went on a 4-point run and USC couldn't catch up. The Cardinal repeated the scenario in the second set with a 4-0 run to build at 16-12 lead, but USC soon after went on a 5-point streak to go up 19-18 and then another 3-point run gave USC a 22-19 edge, enough to hold off Stanford. A 6-0 run in the third set gave the Cardinal a 14-8 lead and Stanford lead 21-15 late in the set, but USC fought back and scored the set's final 5 points. Stanford jumped out to a 6-2 edge in the fourth set, but USC caught up at 19-19 before scoring the match's last 3 points.
USC next returns home to host No. 5 UC Irvine in a non-conference match on Saturday (March 24) at 7 p.m. PT in the Galen Center.
