Thomas Shuts Down Trojans as Utah Evens Series

LOS ANGELES – On a rainy night at Dedeaux Field, the USC baseball team couldn't get anything going at the plate against Utah starter Tanner Thomas, falling 4-0 to the Utes.
Thomas tossed 7.0 shutout innings as Utah moved to 2-15 overall, 1-1 Pac-12 to even the series. The Trojans fall to 10-5 overall and 1-1 in Pac-12 play.
USC got a pair of hits in the second inning, but that was it for the night. The Trojans did put runners on the corners in the bottom of the ninth, but couldn't make a comeback. Utah scored a pair of runs in the first thanks to RBI by Wade Gulden and Chandler Anderson. Erick Migueles added an RBI single in the sixth and Dominic Foscalina hit a homer in the eighth to round out the scoring for the visitors.

The Trojans and Utes finish their series tomorrow at 2 p.m. USC then hits the road against UC Irvine and Stanford next week.

- Solomon Bates tossed 3.1 relief innings, giving up one run on one hit, while striking out a career-high six batters and walking one.
