No. 12 USC Hosts No. 15 Colorado and Oregon
March 14, 2018 | Women's Lacrosse, Features
The Women of Troy will face their fifth ranked opponent in the last six games when USC meets No. 15 CU on Friday at McAlister Field
LOS ANGELES – The 12th-ranked USC lacrosse team (3-3, 1-0 Pac-12) continues its first trip through the new Pac-12 conference schedule with visits from No. 15 Colorado (5-2, 2-0) and Oregon (3-2, 1-1) this week at McAlister Field. The Women of Troy host the Buffaloes for a Friday-afternoon game set for broadcast on Pac-12 Networks (LA/Mountain). USC and Oregon will meet at noon on Sunday.
The Trojans had a string of 22 consecutive wins at McAlister Field snapped in an overtime loss to Boston College last week, but bounced back to defeat Arizona State, 14-3, in their Pac-12 opener. Including wins accumulated as part of the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation, USC has won 19 consecutive conference games. Despite the setback to the Eagles, the Trojans' win over the Sun Devils pushed USC's all-time record at McAlister Field to 31-9.
Since falling twice to Oregon in 2014, the Trojans have won three straight over the Ducks including a 17-4 victory on McAlister Field in 2016. Similarly, also in 2014, Colorado beat USC, 12-11, in overtime during its inaugural season. Since that loss, the Trojans have defeated the Buffaloes four straight times including twice at McAlister Field in 2017 (once in the MPSF title game). Coincidentally, this will be the first USC-Colorado meeting not to take place during the month of April.
Senior All-American defender Lydia Sutton (14gb, 10ct) and All-Region senior goalie Gussie Johns (8.88 gaa, .490) lead the Trojans. Midfielder Kerrigan Miller's (14g, 3a, 18dc, 13ct, 5gb) all-around game leads the attack and Jackie Gilbert runs the center circle (23dc). After graduating over 200 goals from 2017, USC leans on Kaeli Huff (7g, 2a), Gabbi Klein (4a, 3gb, 2ct), and a host of underclassmen and transfers to power the offense. Kelsey Huff (11g, 1a), Izzy McMahon (10g, 5a), and Maeve McMahon (9g, 5a, 13dc) have made immediate impacts. Sixth-year head coach Lindsey Munday owns a 72-33 overall record.
