USC Wins Seventh Straight on Bushor's Late Homer
February 27, 2018 | Baseball, Features
LOS ANGELES – Chase Bushor hit a go-ahead solo-home run in the eighth inning to break a 2-2 tie and give the USC baseball team its seventh straight win with a 3-2 victory over Loyola Marymount on Tuesday.
The USC pitching once again made a strong showing, holding the lions to two runs on seven hits, while stranding 10 LMU runners. The Trojans move to 7-1, while LMU falls to 1-7.
The Lions came back to tie things up in the top of the seventh inning when Jamey Smart singled in a run. The Trojans followed with a 6-4-3 double play to end the threat, however. Dillon Paulson singled in a run in the first inning and Angelo Armenta had a sacrifice fly in the fifth to make it a 2-1 game.
Brad Wegman entered in the seventh with runners on the corners and one out, giving up the game-tying hit, but recovering with the double play and then a quick 1-2-3 inning in the eighth. He would get the win after Bushor's home run. Connor Lunn picked up his fourth save, stranding a runner on second by striking out Niko Decolati, the Lions top hitter.

"I thought we through the ball pretty well tonight," said Head Coach Dan Hubbs. "It was a tough zone for hitters, with the ball down in the zone being called for a strike tonight, but the guys grinded it out at the plate. We got a couple big hits and could have used a couple more, but at the end of the day three runs were all we needed."
"Chase did a great job," said Hubbs. "He didn't get the bunt down on the first few pitches, but was able to shake that off and come up with a big swing. I thought Kaleb had a good game as well with a double and single, we hustled out a couple doubles, so overall it was a good effort."
"I didn't get the bunt down a couple of times, so I knew I had to come up with something," said Bushor. "I was able to put a good swing on a slider down in the zone and luckily it went out. This is a big win for us in a close game against another West Coast team. Our pitching was great tonight, especially the bullpen. They really picked us up."
COMING UP
