Trojans Can't Come Up With Big Hit in 4-0 Loss at No. 5 Arkansas
March 02, 2018 | Baseball, Features
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The USC baseball team dropped a tough result on the road at No. 5 Arkansas on Friday afternoon, falling 4-0 despite coming up with seven hits.
The Trojans had their seven-game winning streak snapped with the loss, falling to 7-2 on the season. Arkansas moves to 8-2 with the win.
USC got the leadoff runner on in four of the first six innings, but ended up leaving eight men on base in the game. Arkansas scored two runs in the first inning on a home run by Luke Bonfield and then added two more in the fifth on a single and groundout. Bonfield's homer was the lone extra-base hit of the game.
Both starting pitchers tossed 6.0 innings and gave up six hits, but Chris Clarke took the loss for the Trojans, while Arkansas' Blaine Knight got the win.

QUOTABLE
"I thought we had competitive at-bats today," said Head Coach Dan Hubbs. "We just didn't get it done with men in scoring position. You have to give credit to Knight for making pitches to get out of things, but we had some great opportunities like men on second and third with one out in the second inning. We just didn't get contact in that spot and when you have an opportunity like that you need to at least score a run. At least a run there can change the complexion of the next several innings where we had runners in scoring position. Today just wasn't our day offensively, but I thought we pitched well, defended well and the energy was good. I'm looking forward to seeing how we bounce back tomorrow."
