Kristen Simon scores a second straight spot on the All-Pac-12 Team.
USC senior forward Kristen Simon has laid claim to back-to-back selections to the All-Pac-12 Team, leading a trio of Trojans on the conference honor roll for USC's impressive 2017-18 campaign. Earning the first conference honors of her career is junior guard Aliyah Mazyck, whose all-around standout season has her on the All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention list as well as secured on the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. She's joined by another steal-savvy Trojan there, with sophomore guard Minyon Moore also locked in on the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team.
Senior captain Kristen Simon leads her team in scoring with 17.6 points per game and on the board with 9.0 rebounds per game. That puts her as the conference's No. 5 scorer and No. 3 rebounder on the year to help secure her as one of the Pac-12 top 15 players selected to the All-Pac-12 Team for the second season in a row. With 12 double-doubles this season to date, she's upped her career count to an even 30 as she's climbed the ladders in the Trojan history books. She scored her 1,000th career point back in November and has since risen to stand No. 16 all-time in career scoring with 1,420 points. That has Simon just six away from the No. 15 all-time spot. She's already cracked the all-time top-10 in rebounds, ranked No. 9 in USC history with her 893 career rebounds on the way in to her final Pac-12 Tournament this week.
Charged with guarding every opponent's most dangerous guard throughout the season, Aliyah Mazyck is third in the conference in steals and is largely successful in holding her charges to under their average scoring production. On the offensive end, she has proven just as powerful. She leads the Pac-12 with 85 threes landed this season, tying USC's all-time record to put her just one make away from setting a new single-season record for 3-pointers made by a Trojan as USC enters the conference tourney. That tally has lifted Mazyck to rank No. 8 all-time in career threes, holding 125 to sit seven shy of the No. 7 slot. Averaging 16.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 2.6 steals and 1.7 assists per game in her junior campaign, Mazyck was a virtual lock for conference honors this year. An All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention recipient, her stellar defensive performance this season has also made Mazyck a star on the Pac-12 All-Defensive Team. She also was named a finalist for the Pac-12 Defensive Player of the Year award, standing out as one of the top-three defenders in the conference. Mazyck also joined Simon on the Pac-12 Media All-Pac-12 Team, released Feb. 28.
USC's defensive prowess has been undisputed this year. Mazyck and sophomore Minyon Moore have been driving forces on the defensive end, with Moore ranking No. 19 in the nation with her 81 steals and No. 2 in the conference with her 2.8 steals per game average. Moore was a Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honoree last year, and now she has a solid spot on the 2018 Pac-12 All-Defensive Team alongside Mazyck. Moore also leads the conference in logging 38.6 minutes per game — third most in the nation. She's also averaging 13.1 points and a team-high 5.6 assists per game in her sophomore campaign to date. Mazyck and Moore both were also selected to the Pac-12 Media All-Defensive Team.
