Trojans Host Exhibition Against NC Dinos, Loyola Marymount

THIS WEEK: The 6-1 USC baseball team continues non-conference play this week with an exhibition game against the NC Dinos of the Korean Baseball Organization on Monday and then a matchup with Loyola Marymount on Tuesday.

SERIES VS. LMU: Since the teams first played back in 1922, the Trojans own a 131-25-1 lead in the all-time series. LMU won the lone meeting last year.

NC DINOS EXHIBITION: The Trojans have hosted the NC Dinos for exhibition games each of the last two years, dropping last season's game 5-2 and 2016's 5-0. The NC Dinos are a professional team from the Korean Baseball Organization. The Dinos finished fourth in the league last year and made it to the semi-finals of the league's playoffs.

LAST WEEKEND: USC swept Villanova this past weekend, outscoring the Wildcats 32-14. The Trojans put up double digit runs in each of the two first games, then won a tight contest on Sunday behind stellar pitching and a Dillon Paulson homer. USC has now won six in a row since dropping their season opener to Utah Valley.

LAST MIDWEEK TILT: The Trojans picked up a win at Long Beach State last Tuesday, beating the Dirtbags 5-1 thanks to a three-run double in the fifth inning by Matthew Acosta and six scoreless innings by the bullpen. Brian Gursky got the win with three relief innings, while Austin Manning, Brad Wegman and Connor Lunn tossed three perfect innings to finish off the win.

LIGHTS OUT PEN: The USC Bullpen has given up just 10 runs in 31.0 innings of work for an ERA of 2.90. Trojan relievers have allowed only 15 hits and three walks in four games this season and have struck out 19 batters. Three USC relievers have yet to give up a run (Brad Wegman, Connor Lunn, Brian Gursky) in 15.2 innings of work, with Wegman yet to give up a hit.

ON THE DEFENSIVE: The Trojans lead the nation with a .996 fielding percentage. USC has just one error in seven games this season.

BREAK OUT THE BATS: The Trojans broke out the bats this past weekend against Villanova, scoring 32 total runs on 37 hits. USC batted .344 as a team and set season highs in runs (15 on Friday), hits (17 on Saturday) and RBI (12 on Saturday).

WALK ON: Lars Nootbaar has worked 13 walks in seven games so far, giving him a .545 on-base percentage and the national lead in base-on-balls. Dillon Paulson has also worked nine walks this year, putting him 14th in the country and third in the Pac-12 in that category. Paulson owns a .517 on-base percentage. As a team, USC's 46 walks are second in the Pac-12 and 19th in the nation.

KEEP WALKING: The Trojans worked a 10-walk inning on Friday night against Villanova, a total that is tied for the second most walks ever worked by a team in a single inning. The only total higher on the list came from TCU (11) exactly 20 years to the day (2/23/98) from Friday's game.
