Sophomore edges senior teammate Dashiell Enos, who takes second after winning past two years.
Sophomore Henry Fusaro dethroned senior teammate Dashiell Enos on Friday night (Feb. 22), edging the two-time defending 3-meter conference winner for his first title at the Pac-12 Men's Diving Championships in Federal Way, Wash.
Fusaro, second a year ago to Enos, led for the entire six-dive final and won his crown with 434.80 points, averaging 72.47 points per dive. Fusaro was also second on 1-meter on Wednesday.
"Every dive I broke down individually with three key points to focus on, and I took it one dive at a time," Fusaro said. "I knew I knew how to execute each dive."
Enos, trying to become USC's first diver to win an event three straight years, took second with 420.25. Enos had three dives better than Fusaro's best, but also just missed on two dives. The second-place was his eighth Pac-12 final appearance of his career.
Fusaro's win marks USC's 10th in the event – including a 1986 victory by current coach Hongping Li --- and Troy's 34th conference title overall.
Said Li on Fusaro's win: "Henry was composed, confident and precise on all six dives. His dedication, commitment and work ethic through our training paid off. I cannot be more proud of him."
Senior Dylan Marin finished ninth on 3-meter with 285.70 points.
The trio will compete in Friday's platform competition, scheduled to start at 3:15 p.m.
