USC Posts Pair Of 400 Medley Relay A Cuts To Highlight Texas Invitational Day Two

Trojans turn in five second-place finishes, eight top 8 overall.
Seconds were the story of the day for the USC swim teams on the second night of the 2018 Texas Hall of Fame Invitational as they combined for five second-place finishes on a strong Thursday evening for the Trojans in Austin.
Junior Tatum Wade (1:56.77) joined junior Kirsten Vose (1:57.91) in a 2-3 finish in the 200y IM for the Trojans. Wade's prelim 1:56.56 lowered her season-best NCAA B team while Vose's final time was a season best. Sophomore Maggie Aroesty was seventh (1:59.52).
Sophomore Marta Ciesla took second in the women's 50y free with a 22.03 after a PR 21.85 in prelims, 0.11 off an A cut. Junior Louise Hansson was fourth in 22.46. Junior Catherine Sanchez was 13th (22.94) and sophomore Caitlin Tycz was 14th (22.95).
Sophomore transfer Nikola Miljenic posted a PR 19.36 and became the fifth-fastest Trojan ever in the 50y free final en route to second in the short sprint. Senior Kyle Grissom was seventh in 19.69 after a prelim PR 19.60 that moved him to eighth on USC's all-time list. All times were B cuts.
Senior Patrick Mulcare was USC's other A finalist on the night, taking sixth in 1:45.19, improving his B cut and 1.19 off his school record.
Seniors Maddie Wright (4:43.90) and Elizabeth Stinson (4:45.55) finished ninth and 11th, respectively, in the women's 500y free with season best efforts while freshman Owen Kao led the men in 20th (4:21.59).
Both Trojan 400y medley relays finished second with NCAA A cuts and Hansson led off the women's race by breaking the school record in the 100y back with a 51.43, lowering Hannah Weiss' 2015 time of 51.60. She was joined by senior Riley Scott, Tycz and Ciesla for a 3:31.15. The men's relay took second in 3:06.39 with Mulcare, senior Carsten Vissering, Miljenic and freshman Alexei Sancov.
The USC women's 200y free relay took third as Ciesla, Hansson, Wade and Sanchez went 1:28.88, a season best B cut. The men's A relay was DQ'd due to an early take-off.
The meet continues Friday and Saturday with prelims at 8 a.m. PT and finals at 4 p.m.
