USC Football Faces Crosstown Rival in Rose Bowl
November 11, 2018 | Football, Features
*USC and UCLA meet this Saturday afternoon for the 88th version of the nation's most famous crosstown rivalry. It will be shown live nationally on FOX.
*Although both teams are having sub-par seasons (the 13 combined losses between the squads are the most entering any Trojan-Bruin football game), there is still lots at stake Saturday: city bragging rights, the Victory Bell and Crosstown Cup points. And the Trojans need a victory to become bowl eligible.
*UCLA has won just 4 of the last 19 meetings in the series with USC. The Trojans have won two-thirds of the time against unranked UCLA teams, including when USC itself was unranked.
*A USC team coming off a loss historically has fared well against the Bruins (on the other hand, a UCLA team riding a loss hasn't done well against USC). However, in the 9 instances when BOTH squads lost in their last game, the Bruins hold a very slight edge.
*The Rose Bowl stadium is USC's home away from home, as Troy has played more than 50 games there.
*Both teams will wear their home jerseys. The game features players and athletic department staff with connections to the rival school.
*It's the first of back-to-back games in which USC will battle its traditional rivals, with highly-ranked Notre Dame coming to the Coliseum next week.
