Trojans come from behind to win by one stroke.
Senior Justin Suh fired a final-round 4-under 68 en route to a 4-stroke victory while sophomore Kaito Onishi carded a 3-under 69, the duo leading No. 8 USC's final-round charge as the Trojans came from behind to win by one stroke at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate Invitational in Alpharetta, Ga., on Sunday (Oct. 21).
USC, eight back after the first round and two back heading into today, won with a combined 22-under 842 (278-280-284) thanks to a tournament-best 4-under final round. The Trojans finished one better than Clemson and three ahead of host Georgia Tech.
Suh, who just took over the No. 1 spot in the World Amateur Golf Rankings this week, only bolstered his credentials thanks to his winning 14-under 202 (67-67-68). He approached the 18th green needing a two-putt from four feet to clinch USC's first win of the season, and used both putts to secure the title.
His medalist honor was the seventh of his career after a school-record five as a junior and one as a sophomore. He had six birdies against two bogeys in today's final round and now has six rounds under 70 in nine outings this year.
Junior Kyle Suppa finished a season-best tied for seventh at 5-under 211 (70-67-74), just off his career best tie for sixth last season.
Onishi came on strong Sunday to tie for 15th at 3-under 213 (70-74-69). He was 1-under going out, 2-under coming in, including a key birdie on 18.
Freshman Charlie Reiter tied for 41st at 4-over 220 (71-76-73) and junior Cheng Jin tied for 45th at 5-over 221 (74-72-75).
