USC sophomore outside hitter Khalia Lanier receives her second Pac-12 Player of the Week award this season
SAN FRANCISCO – USC women's volleyball sophomore outside hitter Khalia Lanier (Scottsdale, Ariz./Xavier College Prep) was named the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Nov. 6-12, as announced by the conference office on Monday, Nov. 13. It is Lanier's second award this season—her third conference weekly award, which includes a Freshman of the Week nod in 2016—and represents USC's 73rd all-time weekly award.
Â
Oregon State freshman defensive specialist Grace Massey was chosen for Defensive Player of the Week honor and the Beavers' freshman setter Kylee McLaughlin was named the Freshman of the Week.
Â
Lanier's award is the fourth offensive award this season including two by senior opposite hitter Brittany Abercrombie in October. Junior libero Victoria Garrick received the defensive award on Sept. 25.
Â
As the Trojans' go-to pin-hitter, Lanier collected 38 kills (4.22 kps) and hit .319 to help the Women of Troy earn a 3-1 win over No. 15 Utah and a 3-2 victory over No. 25 Colorado. The pair of wins helped the Trojans extend to a five-match winning streak and reach the 20-win plateau for the 13th time under 17th-year head coach Mick Haley. Lanier scored her sixth double-double of the season (the 22nd of her career) with 21 kills and 14 digs against the Buffaloes. She also collected four service aces, which included three in a row against Colorado.
Â
Weekly awards have been selected every week of the season since the Pac-12 began sponsoring women's volleyball in 1986. It is the seventh year (since 2011) that the Conference has announced separate offensive, defensive, and freshman honorees. Freshman of the week honors are not included in the all-time totals for each institution. Since 2011, USC has had 17 offensive awards, 10 defensive awards, and 14 freshman honors.
Â
This week, the 14th-ranked Women of Troy (20-7, 12-4 Pac-12) head to the Bay Area to meet No. 4 Stanford (22-3, 15-1) and California (13-14, 4-12). USC and the Cardinal meet at Maples Pavilion in Stanford, Calif., to play at 7 p.m. PT on Wednesday (Nov. 15) and will be shown live on Pac-12 Bay Area in the Pac-12 Networks' Spike Night matchup. Fans can also watch live on Pac-12.com/now. Following a Thursday off, the Trojans head to the East Bay to face the Golden Bears at Haas Pavilion for a 6 p.m. match on Friday (Nov. 17), which will be streamed live on the Pac-12+ platform.
