Trojans Finish 8th At Highlander Invitational; Gore 6th Individually
October 14, 2017 | Women's Cross Country, Features
Amber Gore finished sixth individually and the USC cross country team placed eighth as a team at the Highlander Invitational (5K) in Riverside, Calif. today (Oct. 14).
"I thought Amber Gore did a great job today, I think that was her PR on this course," said USC Cross Country coach Patrick Henner. "Now we have to do a better job with the rest of the pack as far as executing race plan and really staying focused on the race plan, even when they get uncomfortable. The training part, the physical part just takes time and we are not quite there yet, but the mental part is something we can improve on a lot over the next couple of weeks. Gore had her best race of the season, but I think a few of the other women didn't quite execute the race plan and got a little bogged down there, but they are in a lot better shape than they raced today."
The junior Gore led the Trojans for the fourth consecutive meet this season, taking sixth with a time of 17:29.1, her best time as a collegian. Gore has improved her time and finish at the Highlander Invitational each season, placing 17th with a time of 18:21.47 as a freshman and finishing 12th with a time of 17:49.38 as a sophomore.
Freshman Jennifer Daly was second among the Trojans and 62nd overall with a time of 18:54.1, 0.1 second off her PR set at the UNLV Invitational on Sept. 23.
Sophomore Chloe Berry was the next Trojan to finish with a time of 18:55.8, followed by junior Lauren Maurer at 18:58.6 (66th), freshman Julia Bounds at 20:12.0 (102nd) and freshman Sydney Tullai at 20:29.3 (108th).
USC will next be in action at the Titan Invitational in Fullerton, Calif. on Oct. 20, the final regular season meet.
