Pollard, Furtek, Klarskov Win Twice Each In Loss At Arizona

Senior Morten Klarskov won both breaststroke races and sophomore Pawel Furtek maintained his dominance in the distance events while senior Collin Pollard swept the springboard, but it wasn't enough as the USC men's swimming and diving dropped its first meet this year, 172-126, at Arizona on Saturday (Nov. 7).
USC, which dropped to 5-1 overall, 1-1, saw Furtek open individual racing with a 9:14.08 to win the 1000y free. He later followed with a 4:28.86 to win the 500y free.
Junior Reed Malone was second in the 500y free (4:30.23) and earlier won the 200y free in 1:38.81.
Klarskov won the 100y breast in 55.97 with junior Steven Stumph second (56.56) and the duo went 1-2 again in the 200y breast, going 2:01.40 and 2:01.50, respectively. Stumph led the race until the final 50.
Pollard won the 1-meter springboard with 354.23 with senior Deon Reid third (309.38). Pollard captured the 3-meter with 365.48 with Reid third again with 348.08.
Sophomore Jon Knox was second in both backstrokes. He went 49.16 in the 100, just 0.08 out of first, and was 1:49.68 in the 200. Freshman Kyle Grissom was second in the 100y free in 45.69, 0.06 out of first.
Junior Michael Domagala was second in both the 100y fly (48.93, 0.05 off first), and the 200y fly (1:49.41).
